Ambubachi Mela 2024
June 22 - June 26
The historic Kamakhya temple in Guwahati will host the four-day-long annual Ambubachi Mela from Saturday, June 22, to Wednesday, June 26, 2024. As in previous years, the Assam government and the Kamakhya Temple Management Committee have meticulously prepared for the event.
To ensure a smooth and safe celebration, the district administration has introduced several restrictions and special instructions for Ambubachi Mela 2024:
- VIP passes will not be issued this year.
- VIPs will be required to queue up like regular visitors.
- The road leading to Kamakhya will be closed from 8 pm onwards.
- The road from Pandu Ghat will be closed at night.
- Ferry services and vehicular movement from Kamakhya Gate will be suspended.
- Ferry services will only operate on the route from Pandu to Kamakhya.
- The main inauguration ceremony will take place at Pandu River Ghat.
- Camps for guests will be set up at Pandu River Ghat.
- Additional camps will be located opposite Kamakhya station.
- Food and utensils will not be allowed inside the camps.
Last year, around 25 lakh devotees visited the temple during Ambubachi Mela, and the temple committee expects the number to increase this year. Sadhus and tantriks from across the country, who play a significant role in the Mela, have already begun arriving at the temple.
To ensure the smooth running of the event and maintain security, the temple committee has announced that, in addition to police personnel, hundreds of volunteers will be deployed to manage the crowd.
